Notes:
Mike opened meeting at 6:07 PM. Early hours for Rockler still in effect
Alexander O’Hara came to present on finishing
Showed a chair that he used a harsh stripper on – a non-commercial stripper (only professionals)
Very harsh, not good for skin – need to be aware of issues before you use any stripper
Difficult to determine the type of finish on a piece of furniture. Try one product, then if that doesn’t work you have to try another
Prep is always the challenge when stripping.
Doesn’t “dip” for stripping – hard to find companies that will do it
Priced $400 to strip the chair
Uses water based stripper, so it’s a lot less odor or issue with environment.
Alexander talked bout Laquer and conversion varnish
General discussion of dyes and toners, and how to use and match
