Primary focus of the meeting – Sharpening
No presentations were given. Instead, members were offered the opportunity to sharpen their tools and given coaching and demonstrations on different techniques. It also gave everyone the opportunity to network and mingle. Overall, a success for our first attempt at this type of meeting format.
Several different sharpening methods were at everyone’s disposal.
Waterstones, using a Veritas Jig.
Work Sharp system – although this model is discontinued, the principle is still valid.
Diamond stones.
Makita sharpening system with an additional drill mounted polisher.
Tormak system. This included an attachment for sharpening gouges.
Anthony from Humblebee Sharpening spoke briefly about his services. Blades are picked up from Rockler every Wednesday and returned the following Wednesday.
The next meeting (October) will focus on Q & A. Members with woodworking questions should send them to Kevin at kdrevik@yahoo.com . Several questions have already been submitted.
November Meeting will be the officer elections and another 2 X 4 challenge. Prizes will be awarded. It will also see a return to the normal 7 PM start time.
John closed the meeting at about 7:30 PM.
