58, started apprenticeship at 18 for fine furniture
Opened his own shop in 1988, did Philly furniture show, galleries, etc.
Got job in union shop to make a living
Started working with AutoCAD, CNC, etc.
A lot of work at various sites (Wachovia Center, Center City, etc) Got to travel and get trained in a lot
Three years ago went back to working on stuff alone, in Berlin. Started building furniture again (built in, custom furniture, etc.)
Tough three years, small craft shows, etc. Opened a wood store to sell as well. Specialty wood
Equipment includes 53” planer, 24” planer, bandsaw, etc.
Went through pictures of the various items that he did
Over three years, did a lot of epoxy work to pay the bills.
Discussion on what you pay yourself – he quotes roughly $100- $125/hr
Design done with guidance from customer, but he comes up with concept and gets approval
Used Rubio and Titebond glue. Likes the old school shellac finish
Uses a finisher for his work now

Next month (April) competition is functional art – you can interpret it whichever way you want
