Worked with Urban Outfitters, eventually got to their home office (Navy yard in Philly)
Urban Outfitters have shops in all their stores – so the fixtures in the store are made there, and used for sales (if successful, they’d reuse them)
A lot of good info on building store fixtures, how to retrofit/add to them, or re-use them
One of the key points is to build them as modular pieces, so they can be re-used, mixed and matched, and re-purposed
Leaves items glued up and in clamps for 24 hours to help the glue cure and to reduce warping
Use Walnut oil and wax for finishing, rather than just mineral oil
Also makes earrings out of scrap wood. Uses jig to cut tiny parts.
Does craft fairs and Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/HonorableOak
Uses a lunchbox DeWalt planer to flatten, then sand down to at least 400 grit
88% of her customers who took her business card at craft fair, or through recommendations. Smaller percentage are from folks straight from Etsy

Showed small scale version of what she is trying to build on her phone
Trying to make it modular so she can commute to school
Doesn’t need it to last more than 5 hours, but would like to keep it beyond – due to the show
